Well, At Least He's Consistent

Podhoretz again foams at the mouth about Iran and takes another stab at deconstructing the NIE in his favor.

I repeat my previous cognitive dissonance: The CIA may have its political leanings but they're rabid national-security hawks. Furthermore, they are neither treasonous nor suicidal. Something funky is going on. There's something that doesn't add up.

Why has Iran been so bellicose? They all but came out and said that they were developing nuclear weapons and there was nothing we could do to stop it. Were they trying to get attacked?

Why have we intentionally weakened our negotiating position so much? Even if we believed that Iran had no desire to produce weapons (which even the NIE won't assert), simple non-proliferation hygiene would demand that we press very hard to get an enrichment capability out of the hands of a Middle Eastern country.

So what gives?
