Reinventing the Sacred

In last month's Scientific American Michael Shermer had an piece on Stuart Kauffman's Reinventing the Sacred. Here's Kauffman explaining the central thesis:



For all you folks trying to reconcile evolution with a transcendental Creator, here's a way in, other than the silliness of Intelligent Design. Kauffman points out that there's plenty of room for God or any other spiritual force you'd like in the mysteries of emergent and/or self-organizing behavior. This is no more provable or disprovable than I.D. but it does have the nice property that it doesn't need to discredit evolution to exist as an hypothesis.
