More Milestones on the GOP's March to Destruction

Yet another example of self-selection is demonstrated in this excellent piece about identity group conservatism. Once you begin to self-select, the pressure to expel those with even a modicum of unorthodoxy becomes overwhelming.

Of course, self-selection has its downside: If you've self-selected for an ideology that isn't viable, your group eventually implodes, or at least loses cohesion. This isn't good for the GOP, because it will stop winning elections, but it's also not good for the country, because as the GOP flees from the center (and all political relevance), the Democrats have the luxury of sliding further left, aggravating the polarization even more.
